The 27 triking workers at the Grey Bruce Health Unit are getting some support.
The First Vice President for OPSEU visited the picket line yesterday and Patty Rout says the mood among the striking workers is good.
Rout says the 27 women believe in their cause and have a legitimate complaint to make the same amount of money as other health unit workers in Ontario.
Rout says they are among the lowest paid in the province.
She also claims the numbers used by management are outdated and inaccurate.
No new talks are scheduled — and Rout says they are not even close on the issue of wages.
But Rout says they are willing to go back to the bargaining table.
She adds the health unit is spending more money on furniture for the new headquarters than what it would cost to settle the strike.
Rout says it’s unimaginable that management would call the striking workers terrorists — she says these are women that just want to be paid appropriately.
The 27 striking workers will get more support today as members of the Grey Bruce Labour Council will visit the picket line in Owen Sound.
