The first stop on Jeff Preston’s Mobilization March across the province was a positive one.
On Soundingboard Wednesday Preston says he had a good trip from London, Ontario to Woodstock with lots of support along the way earlier this week.
He said he was pleasantly surprised when he arrived in Woodstock to see they had instituted reliable handicapped transit.
Preston says the city of 30,000 has done away with the traditional Handi-Transit and used that money in partnership with the taxi system so that they provide the service.
He says those using the service still pay the bus fare but the taxis take care of the transportation needs.
He tells Beach News he tested the system, unannounced, and was picked up in 20-minutes–a far cry from the hours of waiting in London where there’s no guarantee the service will arrive.
Preston is spending the rest of the week in Cambridge where he will speak in schools and help organize a rally this Friday.
He says the first leg of the journey from London to Woodstock was a little tougher physically than he thought, particularly across the shoulders but he says, they’re getting the job done.
Preston will check in on Soundingboard again on Thursday, May 15th, just prior to his meeting with the mayor of Guelph.
