The strike at the Grey Bruce Health Unit has taken a turn for the worse.
Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Hazel Lynn says there is a nasty tone with the whole situation.
The health unit’s 27 office and clerical workers went on strike May 1st.
Lynn says other health unit staff are being terrorized by the strike.
She says the strikers yell and harass them as they enter the building, they are blocking the streets, parking lot and causing life to be quite unpleasant.
Lynn says they have lost a lot of respect for this group of people.
The 27 workers say they lag behind their counterparts in other health units across the province by about 15 percent when it comes to salaries.
Lynn says OPSEU turned down their offer, despite the fact that it would put the workers in the top third compared to other similar sized health units.
At the end of the contract, the workers would have been paid 21 dollars and 73 cents plus full benefits.
Lynn says they pay considerably better than the Middlesex-London Health Unit, who just recently reached a contract agreement.
Lynn feels they gave them a fair offer, adding she is not going to step down on this.
Lynn says they will go back to the table once OPSEU is ready to negotiate.
