It won’t be long before Ripley residents can enjoy a new park.
The Lewis Park Revitalization Project is continuing.
Committee members Joye Hunt and Sonya Watson both appeared on Soundingboard last week to deliver an update.
Hunt says it has been a lot of hard work but they have gotten tremendous support from the community.
She says they have so far raised 204 thousand dollars and are well on their way to their goal of 230 thousand dollars.
Watson says work on the gazebo and tree carvings are underway but the majority will start in June including the playground and splash pad.
She hopes the fully-accessible park will be completed by the end of August.
Hunt hopes to make Lewis Park a focal point in the village of Ripley.
She remembers speaking to a reporter after being asked where the location of Lewis Park is.
She says the reporter was stunned when she saw the condition of the park.
There is a fundraiser on May 23rd at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre called the Splash of Spring featuring a dinner, raffle, and a live and silent auction.
Tickets are available at the Huron-Kinloss Municipal Offices, the Glass Hummingbird in Ripley, Gordon Pharmasave in Kincardine, and the Village Flower Shop in Ripley.
The Ripley and District Lions Club received 48 thousand dollars from an Ontario Trillium Grant last month to purchase playground equipment for Lewis Park.
