The South Bruce Grey Health Centre is preparing for positive change as the hospitals of Chesley, Durham, Kincardine and Walkerton are moving closer to the establishment of chemo services.
CEO of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Paul Davies says there is a whole laundry list of requirements to meet before they can offer the chemotherapy program.
Davies says they would need a pharmacist, CT scanner, trained nurses and more.
Davies says they are currently going through the list to try and determine their compliance.
He says they are still deciding on which hospital site can fulfill all the requirements within financial and human resources.
Currently the only chemo services in the Grey-Bruce area are located at the Owen Sound Hospital.
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre is also working on moving closer to electronic charts, point of care testing across all hospital sites and a non-emergency transfer initiative.
The non-emergency transfer initiative will free up ambulances to only respond to emergency situations.
Davies says there is not a silver-bullet solution, but he does believe we can reduce it from the ambulance service by taking advantage of other available services.
Davies says the plans are part of an overall system of better health care.
