Another step is being taken today, in the process of building a new 635 million dollar transmission line from the Bruce Nuclear site to Milton, as an Ontario Energy Board hearing gets underway.
Project director for Hydro One, Gary Schneider says the hearing could take three weeks.. as the O.E.B. looks at the impact the project has on the price of hydro… and on the reliablity of the energy supply.
The Energy board hearing opens in Orangeville today continues Friday in Orangeville and then switches to Toronto on Monday for the remainder of the hearings.
Schneider admits there are some intervenors being heard … including some landowners who object to the route of the power line.
The double circuit 500 kilovolt line can handle some 3000 megawatts of electricty.
It’s expected the OEB decision on the project will come down in mid-summer.
Schneider says the other big step is getting environmental assessment approval.
That could come early next year… allowing the project to be built and the new power line operational by December 2011.
