More money coming in for the renovations to the Port Elgin Library.
Bruce Power President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne announced at Monday night’s Saugeen Shores council meeting that the company is donating 50 thousand dollars.
Hawthorne says Bruce Power has always been supporting good community initiatives.
He says they have supported children’s programs and literacy programs in the past so it made sense to support this project.
Fundraising Chair Mark Kraemer also announced at the meeting that Library Architect Grant Diemert contributed 15 thousand dollars and Jennifer Evans of Super 8 Motel in Port Elgin has donated five thousand dollars.
Kraemer says the latest donations puts the fundraising drive at around one million dollars.
He says they have 400 thousand dollars left to raise.
He says it is doable but admits it will be a challenge and the committee will have to do some more legwork.
The fundraising committee has been forced to increase its goal from 1.2 to 1.4 million dollars after all tenders came back over budget.
Work on constructing a street-level entrance and elevators at the library is currently underway and is expected to be completed by October.
