Workers at the Grey Bruce Health Unit are on the picket lines this May Day.
Last minute negotiations yesterday failed according to a press released issued by OPSEU last night.
Pickets will be set up today at the Health Unit’s offices at 9th Street and 1st Avenue West in Owen Sound.
27 clerical and support workers say they lag behind their counterparts in other health units across the province by about 15 percent when it comes to salaries.
The workers’ spokesperson Linda Owens says they regret the inconvenience and potential public risk but their employer refuses to respect their members.
Owens says the latest deal offered by the Health Unit would barely keep pace with inflation.
The employees affected work in several programs including vaccine delivery, rabies, safe water, sexual health and immunization clinics.
