Students from the Grey-Bruce region will show what they know about our history.
The 2008 Regional Historical Fair takes place today at Grey-Roots Museum and Archives just outside of Owen Sound.
Students create a presentation on some aspect of Grey-Bruce history, and three participants will be chosen by a panel of judges to take part in the Provincial Fair in June.
The awards ceremoney takes place this afternoon at 2:30 PM.
Event Co-chair Harriett Mitchell has worked hard to bring a regional fair to Grey Roots, and last year was successful in running a pilot fair last year.
As a member of the Heritage Committee, and a retired teacher and principal, her passion for history runs deep, and Mitchell has been chosen as one of three representatives in Ontario to act as a counsellor.
Mitchell says it will be her job to escort 15 delegates from the provincial level to the national fair in Victoria, BC in July.
Mitchell was appointed a councillor after applying to the position.
Mitchell says last year’s “test run” of the fair went very well, and they’re pleased to see this year they’ve doubled in number.
She expects the fair to continue to grow year after year, and she expects Grey-Bruce students will have a strong showing at the provincial and national levels.
Although the winning projects will be picked today, all the work will be displayed at Grey Roots until this Saturday.
