More daycare spaces are needed in Bruce County; but there is no money to create them.
Bruce County Social Services Director, Terry Sanderson says they continue to hound the provincial government for money so demand can be met.
Sanderson expects the warden of Bruce County to eventually write letters to the province, asking for financial help.
He adds they even broached the subject at the Good Roads Conference a couple of months ago.
He says since Best Start reserve funds from the Liberal Government have started to dry up, they are finding themselves unable to create new spots.
Best Start was a federal program which died when the Liberals lost the last election.
Sanderson says that fund continues to diminish as the county assists child-care operations with capital and other costs.
Sanderson says half a million dollars is needed by the county to create spaces.
He says demand continues to increase, but the funding is not.
Sanderson says more people qualify for benefits, because of new guidelines, however, because they don’t have the money to create spaces, they can’t help those parents out.
