People in Grey-Bruce have a chance to learn “How the Internet Connects Knowledge.”
The second annual HICKTech is taking place on today at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.
Organizer Emma Hogbin says it’s a way for the local community to network, and learn how to use technology to its full advantages.
Hogbin says they’ll have 22 sessions throughout the day, with guest speakers on four topics: business, community, food and agriculture, and technology.
She says the conference will also highlight just how advanced farmers in our rural community are with the Internet.
Hogbin says their tagging systems and GPS trackers for livestock are much more advanced than people living in the city might think.
She says because we live in rural areas, we find ways to use the Internet to a higher potential, and use it in ways people in urban centres would never think of.
Hogbin says the focus is on Internet techonolgy, but they do address technology in a broader sense, with sessions on wind energy and home solar energy.
The conference takes place from 8 until 5, and you must pre-register to attend.
