A local water bottling company not worried about the Province increasing the fees it will impose to take the water from the ground.
Beginning next year, the Province will impose a so called conservation fee of three dollars and 71 cents per million litres of water taken from rivers and streams and the ground.
Vice President of Ice River Springs water in Feversham Sandi Gott says she has no problem with this additional fee being imposed because it will impact all users of water, not just the bottled water industry.
She says the fee also applies to other beverages, the fruit and vegetable industry even the redi mix concrete industry will have to pay more for the water they use.
Gott says had the bottled water industry been singled out then she would have had some concerns about the Governments action.
She also takes exception to some environment organizations ongoing criticism of the bottled water industry and the water it uses.
Gott says in fact, the industry uses about 2 tenths of one per cent of all the permitted water taking in all of Ontario.
She says they also are good stewards of the resource and constantly monitor the amount of water their operation removes from the ground.
In addition Gott says Ice River Springs has a large impact on the economy of Grey County and the local community.
She says the company is a large employer in a rural area with more than 200 workers earning more than five million dollars a year and they pay a good share of the taxes for the community as well.
