The Port Elgin beach condo is going ahead with a slight modification.
The Ontario Municipal Board ruled yesterday that the 4-storey, 17-unit condominium can proceed at the former Sunset Grill property.
The OMB also accepted a Saugeen Shores by-law that will see the building be moved 5 feet to the South.
That is to accommodate the request of one appellant who complained that the building situated next to her home would get in the way of her view of the sunset off Lake Huron.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says Adjudicator S.J. Sutherland made a reasonable decision based on the evidence that was presented.
Smith also believes that Sutherland ruled in their favour since the proposal went through a couple of Planning Advisory Committee meetings as well as a couple of Council meetings all featuring public input.
The OMB ruling for the condos didn’t take as long as the one regarding Wal-Mart.
Smith feels that was because it was a one-day hearing and there wasn’t many witnesses and evidence to present during that hearing.
Joan Johnstone was one of two people who were against the condos.
She would not offer a comment to Bayshore Broadcasting News only saying that Port Elgin residents are the big losers in this decision.
