Students in Grey Bruce are getting a real-life look at dating violence.
Sheatre gave a hands on experience to West Hill Secondary School students in Owen Sound yesterday.
More than 80 students from West Hill attended a play that explores many sides of dating and sexual risks.
“Far From The Heart” is produced by Sheatre, a Wiarton-based theatre group.
The play takes a realistic and current view on date rape, dating violence, how to deal with it and forming healthy relationships.
After the 45 minute performance was over, students participated in an interactive forum with the actors.
Actor, Mike Lukits says the concept of having students experiment with the scenarios, even if it is in a fictional setting, still makes an impact.
Grade 12 student, Julienne Freestorph says other high school students should see this play.
Freestorph says it was so important because you find alternatives to getting out of dangerous situations or preventing them in the first place.
Grade 10 student, A-J Adams says this play was perfect for her age group.
Adams says because it was so hands on, it felt more realistic.
Councillors and teachers also placed the students into groups and continued to discuss the play and healthy relationships afterwards.
West Hill was the fourteenth of twenty-six Shearter stops across Grey Bruce.
