Gord Currie of Goderich says he’s disappointed and angry.
He was reacting to the news that his niece Brenda Martin has been sentenced to five years in custody by a Mexican judge.
Martin was found guilty in connection with an Internet scam run by her former boss.
Currie says he’s concerned about the well-being of Brenda in that she could do harm to herself in her state.
Officials in Mexico say Brenda is under a suicide watch in prison.
Currie says he hopes she will at least be sent back to Canada to serve her term.
Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day says they’re moving quickly on that to make it happen.
Currie says he doesn’t know how much longer his niece can hold out.
He says it’s been a whirlwind for he and his family so he can’t imagine what Brenda must be going through.
