Some vacant farmland across from the Grey Bruce Health Service building in Owen Sound could soon be sprouting more than just milkweed and thistles. The 60 acre property has been purchased by the Brampton based development company, Rice Development which specializes in building lifestyle communities. Co Owner Rod Rice says they purchased this property for its long term investment potential, and because is is zoned agricultural and not yet serviced any development is as least five to 10 years away. Rice says Owen Sound is one of the last underdeveloped communities on Georgian Bay and will prove to be a very attractive place to live for many people who have retired are planning to do so in the not to distant future. However he says what eventually is constructed on that property could be something completly different than a retirement style development. Rice says as Owen Sound expands, then talks will get under way about rezoning and providing services. He says one of the things that made the property so attractive was its proximity to the local hospital, schools and shopping.
