Raising money to let the dogs out in Port Elgin.
14 thousand dollars is still needed for fencing before organizers can open up the 4-acre Dogs Awhile Dog Park at the old Port Elgin landfill site.
Appearing on Soundingboard last week, Project Spokesperson Abby Bolton says they would not open up the park until the money is in the bank.
Bolton says they have managed to sell corporate sponsorships for their benches, trees, and signage.
She says the dog owners now have to step up and open their wallets.
Bolton says they are considering is selling founding memberships to dog owners for 100 dollars a piece.
She says it would be wonderful to have a sense of ownership in something for your entire life and can pass it along to the next generation.
She says those who donate the money by April 30th will have their names on a plaque that will be erected once the dog park opens.
Bolton says they will also be launching their Coins for Canines campaign at selected retail stores in the town.
She says people can donate whatever they can into the donation boxes provided adding every penny counts and will make a huge difference.
Bolton says other fundraising initiatives are being planned.
A ladies comedy night is going on June 6th at the Southampton Town Hall featuring comedian Jenny O’Reilly.
She says a home-show style event for pets is being put together for July 12th at the Plex from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. where pet owners can come by and see a number of exhibitors.
She says there will also be a performance by the performing dog act Mega Mutts at the expo.
