Demolition work is underway on a landmark in the village of Williamsford. The Ministry of Transport is tearing down a century stone house at the corner of highway 6 and McCullough Lake road. MTO spokesperson Bob Nichols says the ministry bought the property last year, with the goal to improve sight-lines at the intersection. The house was built in the 1890’s and there were concerns that some might fight the demolition plan. However, Nichols says no major opposition was heard and no one expressed an interest in moving the structure to another location. Nichols says approval has been received from the township of Chatsworth to demolish the home and a garage on the property. The exterior stones are being salvaged, and donated to Grey Roots Museum and archives.
