The Metis Nation of Ontario is holding a Focus group session today in Owen Sound on Aboriginal wellness. The 2004-2008 Phase of the Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy… is set to end March 31st next year. Co-ordinator Diane Owen is concerned there will be no funding to continue the programs being offered in Grey-Owen Sound. Her mandate is to reduce Family violence, improve aboriginal health and foster healing. Owen says the AHWS (Aboriginal Health and wellness strategy) has raised the profile of Metis people in the region and helped to create positive partnerships in the community. The meeting later this month will gather ideas, observations and support from members of the community. It is set for April 16th at 2pm at 380 9th street East in Owen Sound.
