Big Celebrations at the Gay Lea Foods Co operative. The Co op is celebrating its 50 th anniversary of producing dairy products in Grey Bruce and right across the Province. Robert Goodwill is a dairy farmer in the Owen Sound area and one of the 12 hundred co op members. He says being a member of the Co op has many advantages for Diary farmers where the large membership guarantees good prices for their products. Goodwill is a strong supporter of supply management in Dairy and says because of that everyone along the so called food chain is getting a good return on what they produce. He says the Co op also allows consumers to support the movement of buying food produced closer to home. Goodwill says with more than 400 dairy farmers in Grey Bruce belonging to the co op, any Gay Lea products you purchase helps support a local farmer. He says later this summer, there will be an official Celebration of Gay Lea Foods 50 years in business at the Agriculture Museum in Milton on July 5th. Gay Lea Foods operates five production facilities in Ontario including a large facility in Teeswater and manufacturer milk, dips, cream butter and cottage cheese.
