The Municipality of Kincardine is implementing a pay to use program for the launch ramp at the marina.
The municipality says this programs comes as a result of the increased use.
The municipality says the Kincardine launch ramp is one of the few which does not charge for use, which goes against common practice for many surrounding harbours and marinas.
For the 2022 season, the municipality says users will be charged $10 plus HST per day, or $50 plus HST per season. Fees will not be charged for existing slip permits as well as launch use during the Fishing Derby to support the work of the Lake Huron Fishing Club and their initiatives.
The Chantry Chinook Classic runs from July 23 to Aug. 7.
The funds collected through the pilot program will be put into the Kincardine marina’s budget and will be available for ongoing launch ramp maintenance.
Director of Community Services Jayne Jagelewski says, the program will be evaluated throughout the summer to determine the feasibility of a permanent solution to maintain the launch ramp.
“In the past 10 years, considerable work and expense has been required to maintain the launch ramp. Additional work will be required this year due to receding water levels,” says Jagelewski.
