In wake of the province’s announcement to accelerate the distribution of second doses of Covid vaccines, the Grey Bruce Health Unit has shared information about the timeline for booking.
The Ontario government announced on Friday that people age 80 and over will be eligible to book their second vaccine shot as of Monday, May 31 through the provincial booking system. The week of June 14, it will expand to those 70 and older. Then eligibility for second dose appointments will gradually open up based on when you received a first shot.
The Health Unit says those age 80 and over who received a vaccine through their primary care provider already have second dose clinics booked in June and July.
“Your primary care provider will be in touch to confirm the date and time of your appointment. We do not recommend cancelling these appointments,” a statement from Public Health explains.
For those 80 and older who went through the local booking system for a first shot, the Heath Unit says to book a second dose as of Monday through the provincial booking system.
Public Health says the province has provided this proposed — not guaranteed — timeline for when further groups who received the Pfizer or Moderna shots will become eligible to book a second dose:
-Week of June 28: individuals who received their first dose between the week of March 8 to April 18, on a “first-in, first-out” basis.
-Week of July 19: individuals who received their first dose between the week of April 19 to May 9, on a “first-in, first-out” basis.
-Week of August 2: individuals who received their first dose between the week of May 10 to May 30, on a “first-in, first-out” basis.
-Week of August 9 to 16: individuals aged 12 to 25
-Week of August 9: individuals who received their first dose from the week of May 31 onwards on a “first-in, first out” basis, respecting the recommended intervals.
For those who received the AstraZeneca as a first shot, the anticipated booking schedule for second doses is from May 31 onwards.
The Health Unit says anyone age 12 and older — when they become eligible — should use the provincial booking system for second dose appointments. Public Health says the local booking system is reserved for specialized clinics for people with certain health conditions, targeted workplaces and congregate settings.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit says if you booked your first appointment using the provincial booking system, you can review your confirmation email from the province or if you do not have access to email, call the provincial booking line at 1-888-999-6488 for assistance.
The Health Unit says you should not try to book a second dose appointment prior to the timelines provided for when you become eligible.
