Two seniors have died after a vehicle entered the water at the Kincardine Marina.
South Bruce OPP, Kincardine firefighters and Bruce County paramedics were called to the marina along Station Beach Road just prior to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday and arrived to find a vehicle completely submerged.
Emergency responders recovered the vehicle and two people from the water. Provincial Police say the two people were sent to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
OPP have identified the deceased as 86-year-old William Luinstra and 82-year-old Rennie Feddema, both of Strathroy.
Police say divers with the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit completed a search of the area.
Access to the main beach area was initially restricted to emergency workers, however it has since re-opened.
There’s still little detail about what exactly transpired and how the car ended up in the water. A death investigation is now underway under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.
South Bruce’s OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team are also assisting the investigation.
OPP are appealing to anyone with information about this incident to call 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
