A Gastrointestinal Illness (Stomach Flu) is circulating at Saugeen Memorial Hospital in Southampton.
Officials say three patients at the Hospital are experiencing the illness and because Grey Bruce Health Services follows the best practices from the Public Health Unit they will not admit new patients at this time.
Chief of Communications & Public Affairs for GBHS – Mary Margaret Crapper says, “fortunately, GBHS operates a system of six hospitals, and if any patient in Southampton requires admission, we will admit them at one of our other sites.”
She adds, “all outpatient clinics and our Emergency Department in Southampton continue to operate as usual, without impact.”
Visitation is allowed, officials ask for the public to report to the Nurses Station before seeing patients and to clean and wash their hands and not to visit patients if they're ill themselves.
Crapper says they will re-open to admissions as soon as possible.
