Sauble Beach is mourning the sudden loss of a well known person in the community.
Provincial Police say 62-year-old Jamie Hill of Sauble Beach was the victim who died in a four-vehicle incident north of Brussels on Thursday at the Jamestown Bridge on Brussels Line.
Hill was a volunteer firefighter in South Bruce Peninsula and also recently served as President of the Sauble Beach Chamber of Commerce.
He was an entrepreneur who owned numerous businesses including the Sauble Dunes Bar and Grill, Hills Fine Homes, Beach Flix Video and Coco Club Property Rentals.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula issued a statement describing Hill as a “true community ambassador and leader”.
Mayor Janice Jackson said in a Facebook post Hill was passionate about protecting our community as he proudly devoted eight years of service to the South Bruce Peninsula firefighting team.
“His fellow firefighters remember him as a quiet, easy-going, hardworking individual,” Jackson wrote. “On behalf of Council, staff and our entire community, our heartfelt condolences go to Jamie’s family and friends in this difficult time.”
Police, Huron County paramedics and the Huron East Fire Department were called to the accident scene around 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
OPP say preliminary investigation determined a car driving eastbound on Jamestown Road entered the intersection at Brussels Line and collided with a southbound tractor trailer, which then hit the bridge and a pick-up truck. An SUV then ran into the rear of the pick-up truck.
Hill was a passenger in the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His 21-year-old son Liam Fletcher was driving the pick-up truck and remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say the drivers of the other vehicles involved all sustained minor injuries.
