Old Man winter is taking its toll on Hanover’s watermain infrastructure.
Chief Water Operator Wayne Sickel says public works employees have been kept busy with watermain breaks through out the town over the last two months.
Between Christmas and New Years, Hanover had three watermain breaks.
Staff are now busy investigating yet another watermain break somewhere along 7th Avenue.
Sickel says the frigid temperatures have made it difficult to track down the location of the latest watermain break.
Sickel says a nice March thaw would really help the investigation move along.
With all of these watermain breaks, it’s no surprise that Hanover can not account for almost 12 per cent of its treated water.
The good news however is that all of Hanover’s new water and sewer infrastructure is holding up just fine in the sub zero temperatures.
All of the breaks have occurred in the older water main sections of town.
