Owen Sound Police have charged a A 23 year old woman from the Toronto area in relation to a $25 thousand online dating dollar fraud.
They say the woman befriended an unsuspecting suitor from the Owen Sound area on a dating website.
According to investigators, over several weeks, the woman made a series of excuses which defrauded the individual out of the significant sum of money.
Police say, If it wasn't for a local bank employees who became suspicious, the losses could have been significantly higher.
The Owen Sound Police Criminal Investigation Branch arrested the woman on Thursday (Aug 8th).
Police are reminding City residents who use dating websites to remain guarded.
They say If people you barely know are attempting to lure money or other financial assets from you, they are not your friends and do not have your best interest at heart.
