Residents in Owen Sound have a chance on Monday night to learn more about plans for a subdivision on the east side of the City, across from the hospital.
Redhawk Construction Company Limited out of Brampton has submitted an application to the city for 367 units to be built on 25 hectares or about 100 acres of land just south of 8th Street East in what is called “Sydenham Heights”.
The plan calls for 37 single detached homes, 65 townhouses and 265 apartments to be built.
Owen Sound Director of Community Services, Pam Coulter, tells Bayshore Broadcasting News a public meeting is set for 7 PM on Monday in the Council Chambers to get feedback on the proposal.
The meeting will consider an official plan amendment, a zoning bylaw amendment and a draft plan of subdivision for the property.
Coulter says the multi-million dollar project likely won’t get off the ground until 2017.
No dollar figure has been released on the plan, but a conservative estimate is at least $50-million.
Owen Sound has not yet serviced the land, but plans to do an environmental assessment in 2016.
Coulter says once that is done, the city can proceed with water, sewers and hydro in the Sydenham Heights area.
