Expansion plans for the Chesley Medical Clinic have been trimmed back somewhat.
Arran Elderslie Council gave the green light to spending over 1.2 million dollars on the project.
Architect Terry Marklevitz revised the plans for the expansion for a second time, and the building will now have nearly 85 hundred square feet instead of over 12 thousand 500.
Currently, the six doctors and the Family Health team are operating with under three thousand square feet of space, plus some space in the basement of the Chesley hospital.
Co-Chair of the fundraising committee, Clarke Birchard is glad to see the expansion has received the go-ahead.
Birchard says their goal is to raise half a million dollars, and they have already collected 270 thousand.
As well, the Chesley Hospital foundation has pledged 400 thousand dollars for the medical clinic expansion.
Birchard says that would leave about 300 thousand dollars that the municipality would have to cover.
Tenders will likely be called in early fall and the project won’t be done until the spring of 2011.
