Port Elgin’s Wastewater Treatment Plant has received a glowing report card from the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC).
In an information report to Saugeen Shores councillors, the Director of Infrastructure and Development Services, Amanda Froese, says a surprise inspection of the facility was carried out last September and no issues were noted.
The primary focus of the inspection is to ensure compliance with MOECC policy and the requirements of the Ontario Water Resources Act and Environmental Protection Act.
Froese says the report shows the effluent sample results met the Environmental Compliance Approval and there were no bypasses or overflows recorded.
In addition, all staff were properly licenced, trained in accordance with the Approval and logbooks, operations manuals and contingency plans were up to date and acceptable.
No incidents of non-compliance were noted, and no recommendations for best practices were identified.
The treatment plant is owned by Saugeen Shores and is operated by Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA).
