An Owen Sound area fuel and propane distribution company has been sold.
McDougall Energy announced its acquisition of MacDonnell Fuels, a longtime fuel and propane services provider in Bruce and Grey counties.
The deal closed Monday. Financial terms were not disclosed.
McDougall Energy is headquartered in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. The company — which has local offices across the province — provides propane, fuels, lubricants, heating oil, and other energy services to commercial, agricultural and wholesale customers.
A statement from McDougall about the acquisition explains customers of MacDonnell Fuels will transition to McDougall Energy, and operations will continue from the existing Owen Sound area location — but now under the McDougall Energy brand.
“We are honoured to welcome MacDonnell Fuels customers and team members to McDougall Energy,” the company’s Chief Executive Officer Darren McDougall says. “The MacDonnell family has built a respected business rooted in trust, hard work, and genuine care for its customers and community. We have tremendous respect for what they have created over the past six decades and are committed to carrying that legacy forward. As a third-generation family-owned company, we understand the importance of local relationships and look forward to continuing the dependable service customers know and value.”
Bayshore Broadcasting News contacted McDougall Energy for an interview, but didn’t receive an immediate response.
MacDonnell Fuels has operated as a fuel distributor in Bruce and Grey counties for nearly six decades, according to the company’s website. It offers propane supply for home heating, agricultural and commercial fuel services, fuel transport, a lubricant store and a 24/7 cardlock fuel site. MacDonnell Fuels has been at its present location in Rockford since 1998.
“Choosing a company to continue serving our customers was an important decision for our family,” MacDonnell Fuels President Steve MacDonnell says in a release. “McDougall Energy shares many of the values that have guided our business for generations, including a commitment to people, service, and community. We are confident our customers and employees will be well supported, and we are grateful for the trust and relationships that have made MacDonnell Fuels part of this region for more than 60 years.”
