Bruce Power bus tours have seen such high demand the company is offering weekly tours into the fall.
They say just under 6,200 people took part in their summer bus tour program this year.
Now, nuclear power plant site bus tours will be added at 11 a.m. in September and the first week of October.
The program, which offers guests an introductory video and a one-hour narrated tour around Bruce Power’s 2,100-acre Tiverton site, continues to be a big attraction for locals and tourists. They delivered three bus tours a day, seven days a week, in July and August and one a day in June.
It’s the only nuclear station in Canada to offer the public such an up-close look at its facilities.
Dwight Irwin, Bruce Power’s Manager of Community Relations, says in a statement, “Giving people a peek behind the curtain at how one-third of Ontario’s electricity is generated is always exciting for the staff at the Visitors’ Centre,” adding, “Aside from being the backbone of the province’s energy grid, many guests are surprised to learn that nuclear is a carbon-free form of electricity and they’re very interested in our medical isotope program. Many guests tell us the visit makes them more comfortable with nuclear power after having the opportunity to learn more and see our site in person.”
Meanwhile, The Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre is open year-round, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Learn more at www.brucepower.com/visit.
The Visitors’ Centre also welcomes school groups from Grades 3-12, as well as trades programs and post-secondary institutions. Educators can request a presentation that is catered to the age and interests of the participants by calling 519-361-7777 or emailing BNPDVisitorCentre@brucepower.com.
