Hanover Police are renewing an appeal for tips as they continue to investigate a recent fatal hit and run collision.
Police issued a news release Sunday saying they are looking to speak with anyone who saw a white male in his early 30s — wearing a dark coloured ball cap — who was picked up by a vehicle on Bruce Road 4 near Davishill Nursery in Walkerton last Wednesday.
He was about one kilometre from where a red PT Cruiser was found destroyed by fire in a bush lot on Sideroad 25 in former Brant Township, just north of Morry’s Trailer Sales.
“Hanover Police investigators would like to speak with anyone who saw the smoke, the PT Cruiser or anyone in the area last Wednesday evening shortly after the collision,” a release from Hanover Police says. “Investigators are also appealing for anyone with surveillance video (business, residential, trail cams or dashcam) to check for the PT Cruiser from Concession 4 in the former Brant Township to Morry’s Trailer Sales on Sideroad 25 between 5:25 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.”
The PT Cruiser vehicle found scorched was involved in a fatal collision in Hanover last Wednesday. Police say Sheila Lamont of Hanover, 66, died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the road on 7th Avenue near Hanover Park. Police allege the involved PT Cruiser then fled the area.
Hanover Police say the owner of the PT Cruiser has been interviewed and is cooperating with the investigation.
“Although this person was the registered owner, they have never had care and control of this PT Cruiser since it was purchased,” police say in a release. “We continue to encourage this driver to surrender to the Hanover Police investigators and remind everyone that aiding this person in anyway can result in a criminal prosecution.”
