New art installations have been selected for two businesses in Southampton
The BIA’s Streetscape Chair Kendall Johnson-Sawyer says that they’ve secured the funding for the art pieces.
The first will be a mural for the west side of the Bell building on the corner of Lansdowne Street and Albert Street North, to be created by Emily Kewageshig and Taylor Cameron, both of Saugeen First Nation.
The artists have already provided the art for four banners that were hung in the town’s downtown last year.
The BIA will have the digital art printed onto 3mm aluminum substrate, which will then be mounted to the side of the building, which will help the image stay crisp and clear for years to come.
The other art installation for the town will be programmable, illuminated letters spelling out the word SOUTH. They will be installed on the west lawn of the Old Town Hall.
The letters will be a spot for residents and visitors to stop and take a look around at the surrounding area, and take in the historic architecture, the High Street, and the Bruce County Playhouse to take a selfie.
The letters will change colours according to what’s happening, whether it’s rainbow for Pride, blue for the Marine Heritage Festival, orange for Halloween, or red and green for the Holidays.
Funding was secured with the help of Amanda Monaghan, the Town of Saugeen Shores Community Development Officer, who assisted with applications to Spruce the Bruce and the Town. The BIA filled out the funding required.
