The Subaru Triathlon Series is making its return to Owen Sound this summer.
Local race director Greg Nicol says Kelso Beach at Nawash Park will be the host venue of the 3rd annual multi-sport event in Owen Sound on Sunday, July 20.
There are several different races planned, including sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, and duathlons that combine only two of the traditional swim, bike and run disciplines.
There is also a relay that allows individuals to team up and navigate only one or two of the swim, bike or run legs in a triathlon race.
Nicol says the triathlon event in Owen Sound will welcome a wide range of athletes, some competing at the highest levels of the sport and others who are just looking for a challenge for themselves.
“You may see almost-Olympic athletes, or preparing or training at the world level — swimmers, bikers and runners,” Nicol says. “And you’ll have others who are just setting new goals for themselves, or setting a new fitness regime for themselves, and using this as either their target or main event for the summer.”
Registration for various races in the Owen Sound Subaru Triathlon is open.
“We’ll take registration right up to race morning,” Nicol says.
Volunteers will also be needed to help with hosting the event. Anyone who is interested can contact Nicol via email. (greg.j.nicol@gmail.com)
