Northern Bruce Peninsula is approving over $300,000 in quotes to replace both the Ira Lake Road Bridge and the Cherry Hill Road Bridge.
Council approved proceeding with the quoted service amount for the two bridges during its meeting on Monday.
This comes after council reviewed a structure inspection report in March from WSP Canada Inc, which detailed recommendations to replace the Spring Creek Bridge, Heron Point Bridge, and Cherry Hill Road Bridge at an estimated cost of nearly $2 million.
During that same meeting, council received a delegation from Northern Mat and Bridge, which proposed an alternate, cost-effective way to replace these bridges.
Council later in April approved having staff negotiate with the company for the work to repair the bridges.
The Cherry Hill Road Bridge, according to an inspection report, has been identified in fair/poor condition and recommended to be replaced within one year, costing $625,000. After further discussions with Northern Mat and Bridge, the company quoted the municipality for $218,737.
The work on the bridge includes engineering services and project management.
The Ira Lake Road bridge, which was also listed in poor considering and should be replaced within one year, was estimated to cost $625,000 as well.
Northern Mat and Bridge was able to knock the price down to $129,808 which also includes engineering services and project management.
Council approved for Heron Point Road Bridge, which was recommended to be replaced within one year at an estimated cost of $725,000, that staff continue to investigate further if the structure can be rehabilitated.
