A Go Fund Me has been set up to aid the families affected by a crash that took the lives of four Walkerton high school students and a teacher.
It’s called “The Walkerton District Community School Tragedy – Families.”
As of 6 p.m. Monday evening just under $40,000 had been donated.
The OPP have not officially released the names of the four teenage girls, but they have been identified by other sources as Danica Baker, Rowan McLeod, Olivia Rourke and Kaydance Ford, all aged 16 to 17 and 33 year old teacher Matt Eckert.
They were killed Friday afternoon in a collision while on their way back from a sporting event near London.
The Go Fund Me page says the upcoming funerals for these five families is not something they planned for, and it asks the community to help ease the burden of those unforseen costs.
The community has been grappling with the sudden, shocking loss. Friends, sports teams, public representatives and neighbouring towns have offered condolences, some communities and organizations have lowered their flags to half mast. A vigil Sunday night was attended by several hundred people from around the area.
