Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) is due to make a delegation before a provincial committee to voice concerns about proposed legislation
SON says in a release, “Ontario’s Bill 5: Protect Ontario By Unleashing Our Economy Act has the potential to affect SON’s rights and our Territory by weakening protections for archaeological sites and species at risk, and exempting developers from laws that control development.”
They say SON leadership will talk about the potential impacts of the bill at Ontario’s Standing Committee for the Interior.
That’s the committee considering the bill.
A release says SON will be appearing with one or two other organizations at 5 p.m. May 26th. Each will get seven minutes to speak and then the committee may ask questions.
Meanwhile, on the same day at Queen’s Park, some of the Chiefs of Ontario will be holding a media event at 9 in the morning to express opposition to the bill.
