Alex Ruff has been re-elected as Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound’s MP.
Ruff was projected to win the vote for his third term Monday night at as he was surrounded by supporters at Kelseys Original Roadhouse in Owen Sound watching the polling numbers roll in.
“This election was more of a roller coaster. I don’t think locally, I had a strong feeling we were going to be fine here, I was optimistic anyway, but I didn’t take anything for granted and that is why we were pounding the doors right through the whole election campaign,” says Ruff.
He adds his priorities have not changed.
“It’s about the cost of living, it’s about affordability, it’s about getting houses built, it’s about making sure that the taxes do get cut,” says Ruff. “It’s just about standing up for rural Canada and all the constituents of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.”
Ruff says he was disappointed the federal Liberals were projected to form a minority government.
“Polls are obviously not 100 per cent accurate because of how tight it is, it might mean we are back at this sooner than later. I don’t think the NDP will make the same mistake that they made in the last parliament, propping the liberals up for so long, and they may not have that power to prop them up to get them to that majority number,” says Ruff.
He plans to continue to work to support his constituents in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
As of 12 a.m. April 29, Ruff was elected with 5,989 votes.
