A big party is set to go this weekend in Saugeen Shores.
The Town is holding its ‘Better Together’ 25th anniversary event this weekend. It celebrates a quarter of a century as a municipality since the amalgamation of Southampton, Port Elgin and Saugeen Township.
Part of Southampton’s High Street will be closed to traffic for a dinner and dance, as well as a foam party, corn hole tournament and plinko Friday night. The road closes at 3 p.m. Some restaurants will have tables in the street and there will be a beer garden put on by the firefighters.
In Port Elgin, Friday night there’s a street dance at Green Street and Bricker Street from 7 to 11 p.m. There will be food trucks and beer from the Queen’s. It’s an all-ages dance party with two bands: The Almost Hip and Mob Barley and the Railers.
On Saturday there will be a pancake breakfast served by the Saugeen Shores Rotary Club at the Southampton Coliseum from 8:30 to 9:30.
From 10 to 11 a.m. Opening ceremonies will include remarks from all levels of government, and the closing of the Town’s new time capsule.
There’s a family fun day at Jubilee Park in Southampton from 11a.m. to 3p.m. It includes a long list of attractions:

Saturday night there’s a sold out concert at the Coliseum.
On Sunday the Parade of Champions will start at 1p.m. in Port Elgin. There’s a champion’s barbecue at Lakeview Ball Park (in the municipal campground) following the parade.
Other Sunday events inlcude The Earl Georgas Tribute Band (Jazz) at the Fairy Lake Pavilion in Southampton at 7 p.m.
Get Back (Beatles tribute band) at the Port Elgin Main Beach at 7 p.m.
