The region is receiving $5.7 million from the province to assist with connecting link rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.
Owen Sound will be receiving $2.7 million for the Highway 6/10 rehabilitation of 9th Avenue East from Superior Street to 6th Street East.
South Bruce Peninsula will get $3 million for the Highway 6 reconstruction of Berford Street from George Street to Elm Street. This will also include traffic signal replacement at Frank Street.
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Jay Kirkland says they are thrilled by this investment into local infrastructure.
“This funding not only improves transportation but also drives economic growth, ensuring South Bruce Peninsula remains a vibrant and connected hub for generations to come,” says Kirkland.
The funding is coming from the Connecting Links program, which Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers says helps maintain vital roads and bridges.
“Safe and reliable roads and bridges are vital links that connect people to jobs and housing and make it easier for them to get where they need to go,” says Byers.
A connecting link is a designated municipal road or bridge which connects two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to an international border crossing.
The province is distributing $30 million through the program to 21 projects to repair roads and bridges in 19 municipalities across Ontario.
