A large apartment complex is being proposed in the north end of Port Elgin.
A staff report to Saugeen Shores council Monday night (May 15) says a site plan submitted by Z Modular (Fuze Port Elgin) is proposing a 332 rental apartment development at the north end of Waterloo Street (in the general vicinity west of Vanderwurf’s Independent Grocer).
It would be made up of two buildings varying between four and six storeys.
It would include 24 three-bedroom units and 44 one-bedroom universally accessible units. The report says the accessible units would be designed based on senior independent living arrangements.
It says landscaping plans “provide for an aesthetic streetscape that does not appear to be dominated by buildings,” and notes about half of the total development space would be landscaping.
Staff say public comments have been gathered as well as comments from an accessibility advisory committee.
The report says, “Town staff are in a position to recommend approval of the drawings and negotiate an agreement with the developer.”
