The Brucelea Haven long term care home in Walkerton has installed a reflection room to help grieving families.
Bruce County says the Brucelea Haven Family Council originally brought the idea forward for the home and with the support of the home management team, the room was developed for the purpose of comfort and helping people move forward in a time of grieving.
The county says the new room offers story-sharing as a way to help residents and families. People may attend the space and read others’ stories, reflect on their own experiences with grief, and if they choose to do so, write their own story to add to the reflection room wall.
The county says by sharing stories, people become more comfortable with expressing grief and loss.
Director of Long Term Care and Senior Services Megan Garland says they hope this space helps residents and families heal and know they are not alone.
“Thank you to the Brucelea Haven Family Council for bringing this idea forward and developing a comfortable place for reflection and story-sharing,” adds Warden Janice Jackson.
