The Town of Saugeen Shores is holding an event at the Lamont Sports Park to celebrate the completion of the first phase today.
The Peek at the Park event will be held at the sports park on June 4 from noon to 4 p.m., with the gates opening at 11:30 a.m.
The event will feature the Scottish Pipe Band, a free lunch, a meet and greet with local Team Canada softball players Alison Bradley and Tyler Pauli, balloon making, live music, and Team Ontario softball pitching and batting demonstrations with local players Matt Wardrop and Blake Underwood.
The event will also give attendees the chance to support phase two of the campaign by making a donation.
The Lamont Sports Park is also continuing to see community support with four more $10,000 donations from local businesses and a labour union towards the Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Fundraising Campaign.
The donations come from Ackert Construction, Carson Supply, Harvey’s Swiss Chalet Port Elgin, and Unifor.
Saugeen Shores Vice Deputy Mayor and Committee Co-Chair Mike Myatt says a recent donation brought the campaign to over $600,000.
The goal for the second phase, which includes the development of two youth baseball fields and an accessible playground, is to raise $1 million. The town’s committee of the whole approved a staff recommendation last week to hire a prime consultant to oversee this phase.
Co-Chair Rob Stanley adds these four new donations move them another step closer to achieving their fundraising goals.
“As we shift our focus to the campaign’s public phase, I am confident our residents will help us close it out with the momentum set by the generous donations of local organizations,” says Stanley.
“I continue to be pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of support,” adds Myatt. “As a committee, we are doing everything we can to get phase two built, and our community is certainly playing a big role in making it a reality.”
