The Saugeen Shores Trolley will not operate this summer.
It’s the third straight year the trolley isn’t running.
A release from the Chamber of Commerce says the difficult decision not to run the S.S. Trolley tourism attraction this year was made after a thorough review.
Chamber President Michelle Kay-Scott says in the statement, “While this is disappointing for the SSCC (Chamber) and some members of the community, we will continue exploring options that could see the SS Trolley return to service. There have been a lot of changes in policies, operational costs and partnership resources following the pandemic. These are logistics that need to be addressed before the S.S. Trolley can return. We have a great committee that will continue working on possible solutions.”
In previous years, the S.S. Trolley made daily tours between Port Elgin and Southampton. The chamber says, “Riders had the
opportunity to explore stops along the route that featured beautiful scenes, downtown shops and other significant locations in Saugeen Shores.”
Chamber Director of Business Development & Communications Taralyn Golbeck says she supports the Board’s
decision, adding, “Many businesses and organizations are still figuring out how to return to normal after the disruptions experienced during the pandemic. This decision will allow the SSCC to take their time figuring out the best course of action for the S.S. Trolley, the Chamber and our community.”
