Bruce county’s planning and development is seeing a record breaking first quarter for applications received.
The county says for the first quarter of 2022, they received 110 applications, whereas in 2021’s first quarter, the county received 108.
The county adds staff are working through these applications to bring them forward for decisions.
Additionally, a total of 375 new lots or units were created last year, soaring past the 300 in 2020.
A number of large scale developments were approved over the last several months, which the county says, will improve the overall housing supply.
These included the final approval of the West Ridge on the Lake Subdivision in Kincardine, which will provide between 373 and 447 units.
There was also the draft approval of the Walker Hill Subdivision in Walkerton to provide at least 80 units and 48 townhouses.
Changes were made to the official plan and zoning for Lord Elgin Estates in Port Elgin to permit 113 to 249 apartments, and to allow up to 12 semi-detached dwellings, 22 town homes, and a 90 unit retirement home in the Sauble Sunsets project in Sauble Beach.
Director of Planning and Development Mark Paoli says with the planning and development department continuing to see record application numbers, the outlook for 2022 is another strong year of housing development and will be positive for the economy coming out of the pandemic.
“The record number of applications processed reflects the commitment and teamwork of County and Local Municipality staff and we appreciate the community’s patience during these busy times,” says Paoli.
