The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has decided not to reduce the speed limit on Lakeshore Boulevard North in Sauble Beach until June 15th.
Mayor Janice Jackson says the Town had a bylaw in place that put the speed reduction from 50km/h to 30km/h into place May 1st.
In the few days the 30km/h limit has been in place, she says the Town has gotten feedback from residents that the summer crowds aren’t using the road yet and the limit is unnecessarily low for the off season.
Council made the decision to return the speed limit to 50km/h for the next few weeks.
It will now become 30km/h from June 15th to September 10th every year.
Lakeshore Boulevard North is a very busy beach front street that stretches for several kilometres to the north of Main Street.
Hundreds of drivers park their vehicles on the shoulder for quick access to the beach and there are often pedestrians in the area.
