Kincardine’s Promenade on Queen event is back this summer and organizers are now taking vendor applications.
Every Sunday, starting July 10th, 2022 through to August 28, 2022, the Promenade on Queen restricts vehicle traffic on Queen Street in downtown Kincardine from Durham Market North to Lambton Street.
The municipality says this allows downtown businesses within the closure area an opportunity to display products outdoors, local artisans to display their goods and restaurants to expand their outdoor patios. They say it also provides an opportunity to promote physical distancing for those walking through the closure area on days that are typically busier during the summer months.
The event started in 2020 to support downtown businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic while adhering to social distancing protocols and is held in partnership with the Kincardine & District Chamber of Commerce and the BIA (Lakeside Downtown Kincardine).
In a report to Council on March 7, 2022, staff presented an analysis of the Promenade on Queen over the previous two years, including visitor data and the results of two recent surveys: one from the business community and one from the public.
Lorie Fioze, Manager of Strategic Initiatives said, “The majority of businesses and members of the public surveyed supported continuing the event in 2022.” She added, “Our analysis of visitor data showed that Promenade on Queen attracted many people to Kincardine’s downtown core, and we’re excited to be able to bring the event back this year.”
BIA Chair Sadie Al says in a statement, “The BIA is pleased to hear that Council reconsidered their decision on the Promenade. Even though the event will only occur on Sundays this year, the businesses are looking forward to it along with all the other community events happening in our downtown this summer!”
