Saugeen Shores police have arrested a man after a serious incident on Bruce Road 33.
Police say in a release, at 3:48 a.m. Wednesday, (March 23) police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Amanda’s Way.
Police located the truck and trailer driving onto Bruce Road 33. They say, in an effort to prevent the truck and trailer from fleeing, officers initiated a rolling traffic stop on Bruce Road 33.
According to police, the truck and trailer slowed to a complete stop. Once stopped, the driver accelerated rapidly and collided with a marked police vehicle situated at the front of the suspect vehicle. The impact caused the police cruiser to be pushed approximately 24 meters.
Police say the driver then reversed and collided with a second marked police vehicle, and then began accelerating again forward into the first police vehicle striking the rear door on the driver’s side which caused police to spin out and the suspect to lose control of their vehicle as well.
The suspect drove into the ditch and struck a hydro pole before continuing another 63 meters. Police pinned in the truck and trailer to prevent the suspect from continuing any further.
Police say they conducted a high-risk gun-point arrest. As officers were directing the driver to exit the vehicle, they say they observed him to begin to consume suspected drugs.
They say the driver ignored police commands.
Officers smashed the window of the suspect’s vehicle to gain control of the driver, pull him from the vehicle and arrest him.
They say officers found suspected cocaine.
According to police, during the interaction with the driver, officers observed several signs indicating impairment.
The driver refused to submit to a drug recognition evaluation.
Bruce Road 33 was closed between sideroads 2 and 4 for a period of time.
As a result of this investigation a 44-year-old of no fixed address has been charged with:

Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs – CC 320.14(1)(a)

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000- CC 355(a)
He was remanded into custody. Police say their investigation revealed the vehicle the accused was driving was stolen as well as the trailer attached. The licence plates on the vehicle were also stolen.
They say the accused had current warrants from Saugeen Shores Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Niagara Regional Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police Service, Halton Regional Police Service, Toronto Police and also had several warrants out of British Columbia.
As a result of the above incident a Saugeen Shores Officer received minor injuries to his neck and back. A marked police vehicle was severely damaged and the stolen vehicle the accused was driving was also damaged. The stolen trailer was returned to its owner.
