The Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular is coming back in 2022 and organizers from the Sydenham Sportsmen Association explain what the 34th annual event is going to look like.
Stacy Urbshott and Chris Gebert from the association joined Paul Hill on the Open Line broadcast on 560 CFOS on March 8 to explain how the event is going to be returning in full force.
Gebert says the event is set to run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 4.
“We are going to have entertainment, we are going to have kids day, we are going to have seniors day, ladies day, everything is coming back. There will be a few changes with respect to the entertainment, we are going to have more in the afternoon. It is a family event, so it is a family festival and we will start the evening entertainment from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so it doesn’t go late, we are thinking of the fishermen who want to get up at four in the morning,” says Gebert.
Urbshott adds women in fishing is becoming one of the fastest growing industries out there. With family dynamics having changed over the years, Urbshott says a lot of women are heads of the household and are responsible for teaching the children how to fish, saying how exciting it is to bring a woman’s perspective to the event.
The event will feature a variety of activities, including the fish fry on both Saturday’s of the event from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., nightly entertainment except for the last Sunday of the derby, and for the first weekend of the event, there will be a fishing frenzy for children. Gebert says a pond will be set up for kids to fish for live rainbow trout.
There will also be over $150,000 in prizes with boat draw tickets already online for purchase.
Tickets for the 10 day event are also available for purchase, with $30 for a single ticket and $70 for the family.
